After high school, I went to college at the University of Central Florida in Orlando for a little more than 4 years, which included a summer program at Meikai Daigaku in Chiba, Japan where I learned to speak some 日本語 and read and write 平仮名,片仮名, and some 漢字.
After college I helped run the parents’ business for a year and then went to Tokyo with my girlfriend, no job, little money, and a tourist visa. Somehow we ended up staying for four years. I worked as a manager, marketer, and sometimes salesman first at a fairly big, mostly Japanese company that eventually got swallowed up by Japan’s version of Amazon, and then at a really small, mostly foreign company where we did web development for clients and made our own nifty web services too.
In 2008, my girlfriend became my fiance, we moved to Austin, and we started preparing to become parents. Our baby boy was born in January 2009. Now I divide my time between working as a product manager on a web PR service used by hundreds of large and SME companies and chasing my baby around the house.
I’m a fairly obsessive information and knowledge junkie and know quite a bit about things like search marketing and search engine optimization, electronic, indie, hip-hop, and generally weird music, Japanese stuff, and Macs.
